Your face is one of the earliest areas to show signs of aging. Common signs on the face include sagging skin, fine lines, wrinkles, and volume loss. A facelift can help correct many of these and allow you to turn the clock back on aging.
During a facelift, Dr. Espinoza is able to contour areas of the face that have begun to sag or droop. There are several facelift techniques available depending on the areas you wish to target and the degree of skin laxity that is present. Dr. Espinoza provides a tailor-made surgical treatment plan for each patient, ensuring he meets your individual needs.

What is a Facelift?

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that improves visible signs of aging in the face and neck, such as:
  • VSkin laxity throughout the face that causes sagging
  • VDeepening of the fold lines between the nose and corners of the mouth
  • VFat that has fallen or has disappeared
  • VJowls developing in the cheeks and jaw
  • VLoose skin and excess fat of the neck that appears as a double chin or “turkey neck”
  • VThe loss of youthful contours in the face can be due to a variety of factors, including
  • VThinning of the skin, loss of facial fat, gravity, sun damage, smoking, as well as heredity, and stress

Combining Your Facelift
With Other Procedures

In order to address all areas of the face, other procedures may be combined with a facelift. Some procedures that might be performed in conjunction with a facelift are brow lift and eyelid surgery to rejuvenate aging eyes.
Fat transfer or fillers may be suggested to replace the lost fatty volume. Skin treatments such as IPL, dermabrasion, peels, or laser treatments may be offered to improve the quality and texture of the skin.
Combining your procedures can also help you avoid future recovery periods, additional time off work, and additional fees associated with surgery and recovery.

About the Facelift Procedure

How a Facelift is Performed

The exact steps of a facelift will depend on the type of facelift required. For many patients, the treatment uses an incision placed along the hairline down to the lower ear. This allows Dr. Espinoza to sculpt and reposition the fat and underlying tissue beneath the skin. Deeper layers of the face, including the muscles, are also lifted to improve facial contours. The skin is then redraped, and any excess is removed.
Some patients can benefit from an additional incision beneath the chin to improve the area of the neck. Once the surgery is complete, sutures will be used to close the skin, allowing you to begin the recovery process.

Your Recovery

After completing a facelift, a bandage may be placed around your face to minimize swelling and bruising. Small tubes may be present to draw off any excess blood or fluid.
Dr. Espinoza will provide you with specific recovery instructions. This includes how to care for the surgical site and drains, medications to apply or take orally, specific concerns to look for at the surgical site or in your general health, and when a follow-up visit will be required. Be sure to ask your plastic surgeon specific questions about what you can expect during your recovery period.

Thread Lifts

A thread lift is an ideal option for patients who prefer to have facial rejuvenation without surgery. Often called a non-surgical facelift, thread lifts effectively lift and firm the features. The threads are made from polydioxanone, a strong but flexible polymer that can eventually be absorbed harmlessly by the body. When they are inserted under the skin, the threads suspend the underlying tissues of the face. They lift the sagging skin to renew firmer contours.

A thread lift procedure can take years off the clock to renew your youthful features, sculpting, lifting, and defining your facial appearance without requiring incisions or downtime.
